A bold (and clear) demonstration of energy in the vacuum of space was provided in 1996 by the physicist Steven Lamoraux called the Casimir experiment. The experiment has remained largely a novelty item ever since. The experiment was subsequently confirmed to within 1 % of Casimir’s original calculations by two experimentalists’ Mohideen and Roy.
Subsequent experiments around the World have continued to confirm these findings. The physicist Hendrick Casimir’s future prediction in 1948 that the vacuum of space should be filled with energy (which is basically all ours for the taking!) was finally confirmed by these experimental results. This energy is commonly referred to as “Zero Point Energy” (or ZPE).
But, how (one might ask) can empty space have any energy at all? The answer lies in the fact that the Earth (as well as everywhere else we know of) exists as a kind of equilibrium point in space; a point where the distant stars and galaxies in the Universe bombard us with somewhat safe (?) and (surprisingly) free-energy. Quantum mechanics predicts that the vacuum should be filled with the so-called virtual particles that may cause the effect! However, wherever its source may lie, the problem has always been how to extract this energy (ZPE) from any point in space? Here is where the free-energy story unfolds itself.
The Casimir Experiment
The Casimir experiment demonstrates without a doubt that the vacuum of space is full of energy. Essentially, the experiment consists of two closely-spaced metal uncharged plates that can (at the proper tolerances) block particular wavelengths of electromagnetic energy from passing between them. A force is then created called the Casimir force that tends to force the plates together. The primary reason is that less energy (an energy void) arises between the plates when properly spaced then on the outsides of the plates. This is all well-known in physics circles and proves that vacuum energy or ZPE must exist everywhere! The Casimir experiment simply verifies this fact beyond any reasonable doubt.
But, it happens to turn out that forces are indeed created, but mostly on the electrons that exist between the plates! However, as long as the plates remain evenly-spaced with respect to each other, the forces on the electrons will all remain equal. But, and this is a key distinction here, if the plates are not evenly spaced (say slightly angled with respect to each other– picture a long sloping arrowhead to a point in side view, for example), the forces on the electrons then will become unequal. Yes, this is in essence the simple principle behind the Casimir-Harms Battery!
However, the name “Casimir” will now be dropped completely from the title both for simplicity in writing sake and because we are now demonstrating a completely new principle here (this being the unevenness of the forces of compression on the electrons themselves when the plates are slightly angled with respect to each other)! This ideation might be called the “Harms Effect”, a completely new principle for electron flow. So, we now have a wider end and also a narrow end of the metal plates– yes, a very simple device indeed.
The Harms Battery
So, when we angle the two uncharged plates with respect to each other we create uneven forces (or pressures) on the electrons between the plates. How is that important? The answer is that we can run a strip of uncharged metal in a horizontal direction (in side view) from one side (the narrow end between the plates) to the other wider end (and most metals are simply masses of electrons more or less “swimming around” across the surface giving them their crystalline metallic appearance– a well known fact to science). At atomic or quantum scales, the forces on the electrons may approach infinity despite a weak force between the plates themselves (although this remains the author’s proposal at this point and may not be completely verified as yet). But, the pressures must indeed be very high at these minute scales!
Thusly, we can use ordinary Aluminum foil, Silver, Copper or even better yet a strip of Gold leaf (averaging roughly only about three atoms wide!) running from one end of the almost-closed narrow end of the two plates stretching all the way to the other wider end. Each strip (and many may be placed side by side in parallel along the plate in a side view horizontal direction) might be about 2 to 3 inches wide with an unknown length and again they may be placed in parallel close together along the plates width. Placing the strips in parallel may have the effect of reducing the electrical resistance to the flow of Current across the overall system. This principle is commonly used in circuit design, as well as in places where water flows.
A simple, but accurate description of this device might be the following: A thin metal strip is placed between two non-charged metal plates. The strip would face the surface of the plates and follow the variable lengths. An unevenness in electron forces, therefore, will arise from one end to the other.
This unevenness in the uncharged plates in turn will generate a difference in the pressures (also called a Potential difference or a Voltage) from one (narrow) end of the thicker outer plates to the other wider end. Since, according to the Pauli exclusion principle, no two electrons can exist in the same state with the same position and velocity, a pressure is exerted down the metal strips in the direction of Current flow.
The Amperage (the Current as a force on each electron) may also be a consideration in the spacing of the plates as well. It might be approximately proportional to the surface area of each metal strip! It is noteworthy that two somewhat spherical-shaped plates can create a somewhat repulsive force (pushing the plates surprisingly outward), but it is not clear what effect this has upon the electrons that might exist on a strip of wire between them. This might be a source for further investigation by experimenters.
Since Force is proportional to Voltage in electricity, so the differences in the Forces on the electrons might create a electrical Potential from one end of one Harms battery to the other. The Current ( I ), being the rate of change of the electric charges at any point in the wire, convinces the author that the Current will also be substantial (considering both the Force difference and the fact that a Current rise is proportional to an increase in Voltage). Also, the Watts of power produced will be found to be one Amp of Current x the Voltage Potential output from one end of the battery to the other. Henceforth, the author is convinced thusly that we should have a practical battery for all of the proposed intended uses given below. Consider the example of lightening in the atmosphere (from high pressure systems to low pressure systems or perhaps in an opposite direction) in a demonstration of the sheer power of the forces we are speaking about here! However, the tolerances at the narrow end will admittedly be very tight (perhaps atomic scales) and that was why Gold leaf might be required for complete engineering success. However, the less-costly Aluminum strips (or common Aluminum foil, Copper or Silver) perhaps might even be sufficient. Indeed, this may be the point where the experimental work should begin — on materials and technology testing. Perhaps, also, other kinds of rare metals can be used both to engineer the strips or even on the plates themselves. Perhaps, as in other types of batteries, Copper (or Silver) and Zinc (for the larger) plates will be what may be required. Again, these are basic research and development and engineering questions and these will not be among the subjects addressed by this document.
So, the electrons will then be “forced” from one end of the device to the other (actually like launching a rocket of pure electrons or even water flowing downhill) causing perhaps a strong Current to flow in the (strip) wire. At either end the strip, the strip might be drastically narrowed into forming an ordinary wire of Gold or Aluminum (or other materials) after finally entering or exiting the device at the wider (or narrow) end where forces on the electrons may be vastly less. This may be the direction of Current flow.
Remember that electrons should always follow the path of least resistance (a commonly understood law of nature), so they may tend to seek out the wider (lower pressure) end of the device– as they flow as an electrical Current. This may have the same effect as a magnet on an electron. It is also a bit like an electron accelerator, where ZPE would essentially be the motive force. So, this is a completely different principle (besides magnets) for making the electrons move from place to place. And, indeed, it requires no physical work be performed by any mechanical means (contrary to magnets which do require physical motion)!
But, actually, the direction of the Current flux may be a little confusing in this case (as electricity itself can often be a bit confusing for some) in this case perhaps flowing from the wider end to the narrow end, oppositely to what was stated elsewhere in the text (from perhaps a positive charge to a negative one), so the reader should bear this in mind when reading this document! So, perhaps, let us simply ignore the Current direction for a moment. Why?
In the Quantum Theory, the electron may also be found to be a “wave”, hence, there may be no precise and definite direction of the flow of Current (only a build up of positive and negative Potential Charge at each end). Henceforth, the primary point here may be that there may exist a difference in potential “Forces” on the electrons in the metal strips stretching horizontally in side view from one end of the Harms battery to the other. This will remain a noteworthy distinction. A satisfactory model for this phenomenon may also be lightening, arising largely from a difference in the electron pressures that might exist in the atmosphere.
The vacuum, therefore, acts somewhat like a magnet in motion applying forces on the electrons to begin their flow. But, here again we are using (ZPE) vacuum pressure. That is why a new principle of the Current flow of electrons is proposed and demonstrated here! Also, at the narrow end a very tight (quantum scale) fit may be required to maximize the forces on the electrons. This may also be the end where significant exactitude may be required in the design of the Harms battery (to maximize the potential differences in Charge). In addition, at the narrow end, the outer plates might be somewhat adjustable in terms of their tolerance perhaps to switch the device “on” and “off” or to somewhat control or fine-tune the flow of Current (in Amps) of electrons.
The amount of Amperes (Amps) that the battery produces may depend on a number of factors that might have to do with the forces placed upon on each electron and this might be an engineering and design issue with the Harms battery as well. Charge might be stored anywhere between the plates and mainly on the surfaces of the crystalline metallic strips (in which charge simply spreads out) that are again “masses” of mobile electrons! The length of the outer plates themselves (which may be Aluminum) may also be a design concern also. These are definitely some experimental variables and question marks that the author is simply unable to answer at this juncture.
But essentially, in the final result, one has engineered a battery that will never run down! There are simply no moving parts except the electrons themselves and when designed properly the Harms battery should never (ever) wear out! The author regards this as his greatest idea in the history of his research efforts!! The importance of this discovery should not be underestimated. To avoid politics, the author should have placed the idea on his site on 6th April 2003, but it now appears here in July 2006, more than 3 years later. Proper credit for this invention should lie where credit is due.
Some Applications Of The Harms Battery And The Harms Propulsion System
All applications of the Harms battery operate on direct current (DC). So, any batteries that now operate on DC may be replaced by a Harms battery! These might include AA, AAA, C, D, N, 9 Volt or any other known disposable-type battery (perhaps even watch batteries!). These relatively small “button” batteries would be pieces of extremely high-technology requiring (perhaps) an industrial laboratory to make perfect the design and engineering.
Other applications might include car batteries, but actually the Harms battery might power even the cars themselves! Much bigger and more powerful Harms batteries could power electric motors driving trucks, battle tanks or other military equipment, trains, cars, prop-driven aircraft, helicopters, motorcycles, motor-homes, submarines, ships of all kinds, generators, lawn mowers or other power tools, or anything that now operates on the burning of fossil fuels or nuclear energy.
So, just imagine aircraft and ships that can cruise around the World without ever refueling! Actually, even spacecraft that can travel throughout the Solar System (or outside of it in the wider Galaxy) might contain an unlimited electrical power source. Indeed, imagine also in the future space ships traveling to the stars using “accelerated” electron power, the unlimited power given to us by the ZPE vacuum (utilizing the Harms principle).
Perhaps, a wide “scoop” on the front of a rocket might “funnel-in” electrons in space into the narrow metal plates (this time without a metal strip wedged between the plates), which would span outward toward the back of the rocket hence providing the boost necessary for this kind of travel. Radically redesigned jet engines (with perhaps “fold in” turbofans which may fold in when they are not needed–only utilized to initiate the propulsion reaction) might also power present passenger airliners, replacing present jet engine technology with the new and much cleaner (and probably less noisy as well) accelerated electron power. Hence, the energy of the vacuum contributes to power both jets and rockets.
This might be known collectively as the “Harms Propulsion System” for aircraft as well as for rockets. Aircraft might thusly, unlike conventional aircraft, be able (if they can reach escape velocity) to travel directly into orbit around the Earth. Since presumably there are many electrons in the higher atmosphere (but lesser amounts of Oxygen which is available for burning), there may also be no limited to the access by aircraft to outer space. This has long been the dream of science fiction. So, perhaps, a dream come true has finally been realized?
The author also envisions new kinds of television systems, where Harms batteries might accelerate the electrons to meet the Phosphor-coated screen. The electrons might be guided by magnets or by other techniques. This might replace conventional LCD screens as well as picture tubes. Also, present particle accelerator technology (or “atom smashers”) might be replaced by a different “Harms principle” system for accelerating the electrons. This system might be used in linear as well as in circular “ring” accelerators (perhaps) raising their collective energies at a relatively low cost. However, these will remain only engineering problems for now.
Actually, even housing units and factories might be made independent of all conventional power-grids with even vastly more powerful backyard Harms batteries. These would be more battery applications. The entire electrical industry might, therefore, be replaced by localized batteries operating on the short-range (and vastly less-dangerous) DC power. AC would be slowly phased out, as the power grid becomes eventually decentralized to individual housing and industrial applications.
For industrial purposes, this would require the use of larger more powerful and sophisticated Harms batteries. But, no more power lines, acid rain, global warming, oil spills, wars over oil, noise and air pollution from noisy (and dirty) diesel and gasoline engines, gas pumps as well as the purchase of any more new disposable batteries (that now rust and overrun our landfills). Less waste means greater efficiency and a lower cost of living for all. Totally free energy may even mean an end to much poverty as we know it! It’s quite frankly really the only thing that could. Therefore, the entire society (indeed the whole of the World) might become eventually completely “electrified”. This might be the future of Global energy resources. The author believes so.
Governments (ours and others) might tax the sale of each new battery sold to consumers around the World thus giving them “a piece of the action”, too. This kind of change may be extremely difficult on conventional “old World” industries (like big electrical power and oil). But, conversely, the U.S.A. could take a leading role (in the words of the late John Kennedy), being at the center of the high-tech battery business (a boon for us), because we after-all are “the inventors” (the author does live here in Texas) of a battery that never runs down! And yes, we actually could use a financial boost right now! So, let us now “jump on board” and go to work here in the U. S. A. to perfect this (simple but) sophisticated piece of high technology! Bell Labs (or other like-minded institutions such as NASA or Los Alamos National Laboratories or other research facilities and institutions around the World), are you listening?!
And so, the age of smelly and polluting oil-burning may finally be over. The age of free vacuum electrical energy begins! Bravo!
Another Approach To Free Energy Utilizing The Harms Propulsion System
Update: February 14, 2007
Another alternative approach to free energy would be to power an electrical generator directly. This could be accomplished by placing the Harms Propulsion device in a “T-like” fashion at the end of a fan-like device. These devices (perhaps 4 or 5 of them in a circle like spokes around a wheel) would all be headed in the same direction and would, therefore, balance out the device for stability. Thus, the devices would then travel in a circle and drive an electrical generator to make free electricity (either AC or DC) via a shaft to a generator. The forward end might require a wider scoop intake to gather-in more free electrons floating around.
Once inside the device the electrons would be accelerated out at high speed and a shaft would rotate in a circle. Again, the intake end would be narrow and the exit will be somewhat wider (and these are experimental questions). A governor-like device might be required to control the (perhaps) high speed of the reaction. This might be accomplished with slower gearing. Also, the shaft leading into the generator would probably need an assist to get it up to the reaction speed, the speed where the device itself takes over. At this point, the assist will no longer be needed, so should at this point halt. An electric motor might help the device get up to speed.
The author envisions a rectangular box-shaped device open at each end with the scoop at one end and a wider trailing edge. Inside the box would be many fins made of metal to accelerate the electrons down their path of least resistance. The applications of this device might be cars, airplanes, helicopters, or local power companies and so on (as stated previously). The device is similar to 4 or 5 rockets flying in a circle connected to a shaft and then driving a generator via a connecting shaft. The device could have many uses.
Therefore, the Harms battery fires electrons from the high pressure at one end of the device horizontally to the lower pressures at the opposite end. It’s a bit like an “electron cannon” where the end user users are all of humanity who utilize the free-energy from the vacuum. So, has the veritable dynamic power of the Universe finally been realized?! This still remains to be seen.
In theory, everything should work as it is planned. But, does it really? Actually, only research laboratories around the World can tell us that. In principle, the Casimir effect is proven to work; and has the stated effect of pressures on the electrons. These are the experimental realities. But, the research intuitions quite simply would have to make research in this area a priority. And so, the author simply can’t do this all by himself!
Any and all correspondence concerning this issue, therefore, is welcome! Anyone who has the experience and “know how” to build the Harms battery (or any of the devices described in this document) is welcomed, therefore, to do so. Therefore, take this purely theoretical idea and make it work. Surely, the World should benefit if it does!
